Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals to a high standard according to menu specifications, ensuring consistency and quality across all dishes.
• Assist with kitchen mise en place, including prepping vegetables, preparing sauces, and portioning meats and fish for service periods.
• Maintain impeccable cleanliness and hygiene standards in all work areas, adhering to HACCP and Food Safety regulations at all times.
• Work collaboratively with the kitchen brigade, including Head Chefs, Sous Chefs, and Kitchen Porters, to ensure smooth and efficient service.
• Monitor stock levels, assist with inventory checks, and report any shortages or equipment issues to the senior kitchen management.
• Uphold health and safety protocols, including safe handling of kitchen equipment and proper storage of all food items.
• Adapt to different kitchen styles and menus, demonstrating flexibility across various types of catering establishments in the Derby area.

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience as a Cook, Commis Chef, or Kitchen Assistant in a professional kitchen environment.
• Valid Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 minimum) is essential.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced service environment, with strong time-management skills.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills; the ability to follow instructions precisely while also using initiative.
• A positive, can-do attitude and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.
• Flexibility regarding shift patterns, including availability for early mornings, late finishes, and weekend work as required.
• Knowledge of various cooking techniques and a passion for the hospitality industry. Experience with high-volume catering is a plus.
