Key Responsibilities & Duties

As a Demolition Labourer/Operative, your day-to-day tasks will be varied and essential to site progress. You will report to the Site Supervisor and be responsible for:

• Manual Handling and Clearance: Safely loading, unloading, and moving construction materials, debris, and equipment using appropriate manual handling techniques and mechanical aids where provided.
• Site Preparation and Tidiness: Assisting with setting up and breaking down site welfare facilities, erecting safety signage and barriers, and maintaining excellent housekeeping to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient working environment for all personnel.
• Assisting Skilled Operatives: Working alongside and supporting experienced demolition operatives, skilled tradespeople, and machine drivers by preparing areas, sorting materials (e.g., segregating metal, wood, concrete), and ensuring they have the tools and materials needed.
• Tool and Plant Operation: Operating non-powered and light powered tools under supervision, such as pneumatic drills, concrete breakers, and cut-off saws, after receiving the necessary site-specific training and certification.
• Waste Management: Segregating waste materials into designated skips and containers in line with environmental policies and recycling targets, contributing to the site's sustainability goals.
• Rigging and Slinging (with training): Assisting with basic slinging and signalling duties for crane operations, ensuring loads are secure and movements are conducted safely.
• Adherence to Safety Protocols: Strictly following all company and site Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, including wearing full PPE at all times, participating in daily toolbox talks, and proactively identifying and reporting any potential hazards.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications

To be successful in this role and to ensure your safety and that of others on site, you must meet the following criteria:

• Proven Experience: Previous experience as a Construction Labourer, Demolition Operative, or in a similar heavy manual role is essential. Experience on large-scale commercial or residential demolition projects is a significant advantage.
• Valid CSCS Card: A valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Labourer or Operative card is mandatory. We can advise on obtaining one if needed.
• PPE and Safety Mindset: Must own and consistently wear basic PPE (steel-toe cap boots, hi-vis clothing). A demonstrable commitment to safe working practices is non-negotiable.
• Physical Fitness and Stamina: The role is extremely physically demanding, requiring heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and working in all weather conditions. You must be fit for work.
• Right to Work: Must have the full, unrestricted right to work in the UK. We will need to see original documentation as part of our compliant registration process.
• Team Player with Reliability: Excellent timekeeping, reliability, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions precisely.
• Additional Certifications (Desirable): Any of the following are highly beneficial: CPCS/NPORS for plant, PASMA, IPAF, SSSTS/SMSTS, First Aid at Work, or Asbestos Awareness.
