Key Duties & Daily Responsibilities

Conducting self-inspection of all work, checking for defects, dimensions, and weld integrity. Applying finishing techniques such as grinding, polishing, and cleaning to prepare fabricated items for dispatch, paint, or further assembly.
-
Workshop & Equipment Maintenance
Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work area in line with 5S principles. Performing basic maintenance and safety checks on welding equipment, gas bottles, hand tools, and machinery (e.g., guillotines, press brakes, saws).
-
Health & Safety Compliance
Strictly adhering to all COSHH regulations, risk assessments, and method statements. Wearing appropriate PPE at all times and participating in daily tool-box talks to ensure a zero-accident culture on-site and in the workshop.
-
Team Collaboration
Working effectively as part of a small team of fabricators, welders, and apprentices. Communicating clearly with supervisors, project managers, and occasionally clients to ensure project timelines and quality expectations are met.

Frequently Asked Questions: Welder Jobs in London SW1
The role primarily requires proficiency in MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding for general fabrication of mild steel structures. Experience with TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding is a significant advantage, as the client occasionally works with stainless steel and aluminium for architectural features. While MMA (stick) welding is less common, basic competency is beneficial. The exact process mix will depend on the project, but versatility is highly valued. Your consultant will match your specific skillset to the most appropriate client.
For this specific workshop-based role in SW1, a CSCS card is highly desirable but not always mandatory on day one, as much of the work is off-site. However, for any site installation work, a valid CSCS card will be required. Many of our clients insist on it as a baseline safety qualification. While we do not directly provide or pay for the card, we can guide you through the process, recommend test centres in London, and provide revision materials for the Health, Safety and Environment test. Securing a CSCS card dramatically increases the number of roles you are eligible for.
This is a temp-to-perm assignment. The initial temporary period is typically 12 weeks, serving as a mutual assessment period for both you and the employer. Based on performance, attendance, and fit within the team, the client intends to offer a permanent contract after this period. The temporary phase is paid weekly through Staffing Agency at the advertised hourly rate. We are also transparent about purely temporary roles; for example, we list short-term demolition jobs and temporary events jobs separately on our site.
Yes, absolutely. While this particular role requires 3+ years of experience, Staffing Agency works with clients across London who seek Improver Welders, Fabricator Mates, and Apprentices. The pay rate for these positions is naturally adjusted to reflect the training and supervision required. We believe in supporting career progression at all levels. If you have recently completed a college course or Level 2 NVQ and are looking for your first workshop role, please still get in touch. We also list no experience jobs across various sectors on our website.
The process is simple and reliable. You will submit a digital or paper timesheet at the end of each week, signed by your site supervisor. Our accounts team processes these, and pay is made directly into your bank account every Friday. Your pay includes statutory holiday pay accrual. All deductions (PAYE, National Insurance) are clearly shown on your weekly payslip, which is emailed to you. We ensure compliance with all UK employment and tax laws. For those interested in office-based financial roles, we also recruit for Payroll Administrator positions to manage these very processes.
