Job Description: Children's Residential Support Worker
As a Children's Residential Support Worker in Stoke-on-Trent, you will play a pivotal role in providing a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for children and young people in care. You will be part of a dedicated team within a residential home, supporting the day-to-day physical and emotional well-being of residents, promoting independence, and helping them achieve their personal goals. This is a hands-on role where your patience, resilience, and positive attitude directly impact a young person's life trajectory.
Staffing Agency partners with Ofsted-regulated children's homes across the ST1 postcode and wider Staffordshire region. We understand the local sector's specific needs and connect skilled, vetted professionals with reputable employers. Whether you're an experienced Children's Residential Support Worker seeking a new challenge or looking to transition from a similar field like a Supply Teacher or youth work, our specialist consultants provide personalised guidance and access to the best local opportunities.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about child-centred care, looking for a rewarding career with practical, tangible outcomes. We offer comprehensive onboarding, ongoing training support, and a clear path for progression within the social care sector.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Direct Care & Supervision: Provide day-to-day care, ensuring a safe, clean, and supportive home environment. Supervise and engage with children during meals, activities, and routines, promoting positive behaviour and social skills.
- Emotional & Developmental Support: Build trusting, professional relationships with young people. Support their emotional well-being, act as a positive role model, and assist with therapeutic activities outlined in their individual care plans.
- Administration & Teamwork: Maintain accurate, timely records (logbooks, incident reports). Participate actively in team meetings, handovers, and contribute to the development of care plans. Work collaboratively with colleagues, social workers, and other professionals.
- Life Skills & Community Integration: Support young people in developing practical life skills (cooking, budgeting, personal care). Facilitate and accompany them to appointments, educational settings, and positive community activities.
- Safeguarding & Welfare: Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding. Recognise signs of emotional distress or risk, follow protocols meticulously, and always act in the best interest of the child.
